The Evolution of Political Correctness: A Necessity or Overreaction?

Do you guys think there will be a time soon where political correctness stops being a thing? I am so sick of everyone getting offended at everything. I remember back when I was younger; I didn't hear about this stuff. What happened? What changed?

Political Correctness and Its Roots

Political correctness is usually a term used as a substitution for politeness. Is it political correct for me to gender someone correctly, or is it polite because they told me to and it's easy as hell?

Is it political correctness to not call communities in ways they told us not to, or is it polite because they don't want offensive and discriminatory terms associated with their community or accepted at all?

The issue is not that political correctness is a thing; it's just that usually, underrepresented people are now asking for the level of politeness and respect they deserve and have not been getting. This so-called wave of sensitivity is not, in fact, such because the world and people in nature don't get more sensitive. Apathy starts setting in over time; what does happen is that the acceptable set of targets changes.

The Historical Context of Political Correctness

In the 1960s, it was acceptable to make racist and discriminatory jokes against marginalized communities. Now, it's acceptable to make fun of the people who still do those aforementioned jokes. Look, simply put, Jeff Dunham, the comedian with Achmed the dead terrorist, is the most popular comedian in Saudi Arabia! So, fuck that shit about the world being more sensitive.

Progressiveness and Political Correctness

From a technical point of view, progressiveness is political correctness. Progressiveness has occurred in every generation. I don't think it'll disappear, but I think it may change form over time.

Overcoming Political Correctness: Emotional Maturity and Progress

Overcoming political correctness requires emotional maturity. I think we are moving in the opposite direction. The concept of thinking before speaking has never been a strong point for most people, so any attempt to make people think before they speak will no doubt be futile. As will any attempt to stem conservatives' hysteria over the attempts.

Respecting Tradition and Progress

Sometimes small things are wrong and counter-progressive, like Mr. Potato Head or Dr. Seuss, but many people value tradition. When you begin to nitpick about everything, you're only causing more division and resentment from those who value tradition to sometimes a very unhealthy point.

Some battles aren't worth it. Mr. Potato Head is an example where making new stories instead of changing the old could help keep the peace. Respect where we came from and embrace where we're going.
