Navigating NEET Prep: Balancing Social Life and Academic Success
Contrary to popular belief, it is entirely possible to maintain a normal and enjoyable social life while preparing for the NEET exam. Although intense preparation periods may limit social interactions, these experiences are crucial for long-term mental health and future reflection.
How I Managed My Social Life During NEET Prep
My NEET preparation journey began in 2018 when I completed my 10th grade from a CBSE school in Darbhanga, Bihar. Afterward, I applied for Aligarh Muslim University’s senior secondary exams and was selected. This led me to shift my base to Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, and enroll in a local institute for NEET preparation.
My typical day during NEET prep looked like this:
Awaking early at 6:30 AM to start the day Attending school from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM (frequent attendance was mandatory) A 1-3 PM lunch break and other personal time Institute hours from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM Returning to the hostel tired after classes 5-6 hours of self-study before bedDespite these demanding hours, I ensured to maintain my social circle despite the constraints. My social life revolved around family visits and limited hangouts with friends. However, my limited time for social activities was not the primary challenge; it was my small friend circle and zero social outings. I missed playing cricket, a favorite pastime, during those years. My family's support became a critical factor in managing my preparation and social life.
Luckily, I managed to clear NEET in my second attempt, scoring 533 marks and securing admission to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
The Impact of Preparation on Social Life
The NEET preparation period can be isolating, with minimal time for family and friends. Most serious aspirants find themselves with a small social circle or no friends at all. The sleep cycle often becomes irregular, adding to the stress. However, it is essential to recognize that this challenging journey ultimately leads to significant achievements. Personal sacrifices during this time, including limited social engagements, will yield rich rewards when you achieve your dream of a medical college.
Social Life in MBBS
After securing my dream medical college, my social life took a significant turn. I now spend a lot of time on social media platforms, utilizing accounts on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Quora. This newfound balance highlights the value of my earlier sacrifices.
