Developing an Effective Exam Strategy
Prelims Strategy
The goal in the preliminary stage is to achieve a comfortable score of at least 110 to 120 on the GS paper. Avoid attempting unfamiliar questions, as there will be at least ten such questions out of a total of 100. Leave them unanswered to avoid negative marks affecting your overall score.
For Paper 2, focusing on logical reasoning, quantitative analysis, and English is essential. Although a 33% score out of 200 is the qualification criterion, treating this paper seriously and practicing with mocks can enhance your preparedness.
Mains Strategy
Answer writing is crucial for success in the Mains. Mock tests can help improve your ability to address questions effectively. Write answers with coherence, reasoning, and a meaningful presentation.
Essay Strategy
Avoid the common mistake of ignoring the essay paper. Prepare notes for common essay topics like education and health well in advance. Focusing on important examples, facts, current issues, government initiatives, quotes, numbers, and international experiences can significantly enhance the quality of your essays.
General Studies Papers
Devote adequate time to all GS123 and 19 questions in the Ethics paper. With proper planning, this can be a straightforward task. My success in delivering everything within the three-hour time limit is a testament to the right approach and preparation.
I recommend developing your own strategy based on what works best for you. The right approach and preparation will undoubtedly lead to success. Best of luck!
