An Unforgettable Houseguest Incident: The Rudest Thing a Guest Has Ever Done in My Home
Despite the fact that I am an atheist, I was raised as a Jew. On one occasion, a long-time colleague brought over her friend, who identified as a born-again Christian. We shared a deep musical bond, but I couldn’t have been more accepting of their religious beliefs. However, it was clear that my kind and open attitude towards all religions did not extend to everyone who visited my home.
The Haranguing ExperienceDuring an uninvited conversation, a friend of the employee began criticizing me for being Jewish and attempted to pressure me into converting to Christianity. His persistent attempts to convert me (although I know that preaching to an atheist is like calling water wet) went on and on, even attempting to provide proofs of its efficiency. This disrespect for my beliefs was a rude and unwelcome intrusion into my peaceful environment.
No Good Deed Goes UnpunishedNot long after that, I harbored a homeless woman in my spare room. Acting on goodwill, a relative paid $350 per month for her to live there. She had some physical and mental health issues, which I quickly noticed, but we got along fine, and she kept mostly to herself. After two months, she invited a female friend to visit for a couple of hours, a request I graciously agreed to. Since the house is small, I could hear activities around the house. About an hour into the visit, the bathroom was occupied. When I returned from the kitchen, I noticed an unusual smell. You can imagine my shock when I informed my roommate that the other woman might need assistance.
Feeling nauseous, I left the room to focus on cleaning the smell. When the women finally left, I realized the bathroom was an absolute mess. She had smeared feces all over the toilet, the sink, the walls, the shower, the floor and even on the towels. The smell was so overwhelming, I almost lost it. Despite calling my roommate, she did not answer, and I was left to clean the bathroom on my own.
Cleaning and ConsequencesArmed with rubber gloves and masks, I cleaned and disinfected the bathroom meticulously. This incident left a lasting impression on me, and I made a stringent rule never to allow visitors to use the bathroom again. Sadly, my roommate stayed for only a few more weeks and eventually left.
Since then, any new visitor to my home uses the bathroom with a sense of trepidation, never knowing what they might encounter. This story serves as a reminder that no good deed goes unpunished, and sometimes, the most well-intended acts can lead to unexpected, and sometimes traumatic, experiences.
