Understanding the Impeachment Inquiry: A Personal Perspective

When the House Committee began the formal impeachment inquiry toward President Trump in 2019, it sparked intense debate and a myriad of opinions. From those who believe it to be a cynical political move to those who see it as a necessary check on executive power, the inquiry has become a central topic of discussion and a hotbed of controversy. In this article, I will present my thoughts on this critical process and explore its implications for the United States.

Impeachment: A Shoddily Executed Political Move

The impeachment process, as instituted by the House Committee, appears to many, myself included, as a sham and a joke. It is clear that Speaker Pelosi, a seasoned political figure, has lost control of her party, allowing radical elements within to take the reins. Politicizing the impeachment process has resulted in a meaningless spectacle, stripping away its seriousness and rigour. The Democrats, it seems, have set a precedent by using the impeachment process as a tool to eliminate or at least harass any second-term president during their tenures. This sets a dangerous precedence, making it nearly inevitable that every Democratic president will face repeated investigations and potential impeachments.

Who Gains from an Unstable US Government?

The question arises: who benefits from an unstable US government and a divided country during an election year, especially when an impeachment process is already underway? The answer to this question might uncover deeper motivations and culprits behind the impeachment effort. Is foreign influence, specifically Russian interference, a factor? Unfortunately, it is highly possible. It is concerning when accusations of Russian involvement in previous political matters continue to fly around, especially during a contentious impeachment process. Such ambitions would directly harm the trust of American citizens in their government and institutions.

Fair Process or Political Exploitation?

When delving into the specifics of the impeachment inquiry, it is important to approach the matter with a critical eye. The process of impeachment can be seen as a necessary tool to ensure that elected officials act in the best interests of the country. To that end, this article provides a clear explanation of the privileges and rights afforded to the President during the impeachment proceedings, including the ability to call witnesses and have legal counsel present. Despite President Trump's initial denial of these rights, it is important to note that he has not consistently adhered to these rules in past investigations. His refusal to use such privileges during the Mueller investigation and during the current impeachment proceedings might indicate a calculated decision to harm his own cause.

The Implications for the 2020 Presidential Election

The timing of the impeachment proceedings raises further questions. While the House Committee began its investigation, the 2020 presidential election was just around the corner. This strategic timing can be seen as a deliberate move by those pushing for the impeachment to sow discord and create an unstable political environment. Such instability can indeed be beneficial to inside players who stand to gain from a divided and unpredictable US political structure. The potential for foreign influence to take advantage of this instability increases significantly in such a scenario.

A Personal Reflection and Conclusion

In my personal opinion, the impeachment inquiry conducted by the House Committee was, if not more fair, at the very least fair. The political nature of the inquiry, however, cannot be ignored. The question of who benefits from an unstable government and divided nation must be addressed. If we find that foreign or domestic actors are behind this, it is an act of treason and must be met with the full force of the law.

The impeachment proceedings have left many with a bitter taste in their mouths, especially given the discourse surrounding them. Whether it is due to political division, fear of Russian interference, or the desire for political gain, the question of who set this up is a critical one. The aftermath of this process will undoubtedly shape the political climate and the trust the American public has in their political system for years to come.

It is my hope that this process leads to a more unified and stable government, one that is accountable and transparent. Until this happens, the divisions within and without our government will continue to plague us.
