Am I Boring Because I Don’t Smoke or Drink Alcohol?

Have you ever found yourself wondering if your reluctance to smoke or consume alcohol makes you boring to others?

Are You Bored or Simply Incurious?

It's important to recognize that not everyone's curiosity is stimulated by smoking or drinking. Some individuals find other avenues to engage with the world. While you might have fewer opportunities for social interaction or bonding through these activities, it doesn't necessarily mean you are boring. Instead, you might have a different threshold for what makes you inquisitive and interested in life.

Experimenting with different experiences and conversations can open up a world of stories and insights that you might not get in more traditional settings. Surround yourself with open-minded individuals, and you’ll likely end up with a collection of fascinating tales and unique perspectives.

My Opinion on Smoking and Drinking

Many people associate smoking and heavy drinking with a certain level of excitement or even rebelliousness. However, my stance on these habits is quite different. Not only do I believe that engaging in such activities doesn't make you cool, but it can also harm your personal growth and relationships, as evidenced by the impact on my life and the lives of those around me.

I have two nephews who have never smoked or drunk alcohol, and they are thriving in their professional lives. They are far from boring and often the life of the party. They actively seek out fun and meaningful experiences, showing that living a healthy and sensible life can lead to a vibrant existence too.

For instance, my father, who was very healthy, died of throat cancer after smoking occasional cigars. This experience reinforced my belief in the dangers of smoking, whether it's cigarettes, cigars, or pipes. The detrimental effects of smoking can linger for years and take a toll on your health.

Mixed Experience in College

During my college years, my friends were often involved in alcohol and marijuana parties, an experience that I avoided for personal reasons. However, this did not mean I couldn’t appreciate the company and connection with friends. On the contrary, I found ways to engage in more meaningful and enriching activities.

For instance, I had a girlfriend who was very proper and traditional. She didn't enjoy sleepovers or games that involved daring or risk. Upon using alcohol or marijuana, she took part in some wild activities. On one night, she became rather half-naked and stayed that way for over an hour. While most of my friends knew my stance on such activities, I chose to be a responsible driver for them, ensuring their safety.

On another occasion, a stranger appeared at the party, which led to some difficulties. A man showed up and said he wouldn't allow me to be there unless I joined in the marijuana smoking. I decided to stay home that night to avoid any trouble. At the end of the night, four of my friends were arrested for driving under the influence (DUI), and the stranger also got arrested for DUI and assaulting the arresting officer. That resulted in some friends facing legal trouble, while I managed to avoid the issue.

Healthy Living and Strong Relationships

Whereas engaging in these habits can lead to chaos and legal trouble, maintaining a healthy lifestyle can bring about a balanced and fulfilling life. My friends who abstain from smoking and drinking and occasionally enjoy a glass of wine still lead active and engaging lives.

These individuals are not boring; they simply enjoy a healthier and more sensible lifestyle. They have managed to find happiness and meaningful relationships without compromising their well-being or engaging in potentially harmful activities.

So, if you are inclined towards a healthier lifestyle and avoid smoking and drinking, congratulations! You are taking control of your health and making wise choices. Embrace your uniqueness and continue to prioritize your well-being. You will find your happy place, and people will admire you for being strong and healthy.

By staying true to yourself, you can thrive and find meaningful connections with others who appreciate your wisdom and strength.
